What is MusiXine?

The International Music Film Festival MusiXine presents films on music, making music and music related phenomena. The festival gathers together a screening programme of music related films, videos and seminars. MusiXine is organized by the non-profit organization Oulu Music Video Festival.

MusiXine is based on the concern of maintaining artistic value in rapidly grown music film scene. Since 2007, International Music Film Contest MusiXine was organized as a part of Oulu Music Video Festival, an annually held event that celebrates audiovisual arts and pop culture.

In March 2011, MusiXine expanded into an individual Music Film Festival when the special screening programme became more crucial part of the event than the contest itself. To please the friends of music films, MusiXine takes a step towards more audience-friendly festival and devotes itself completely to the special screenings that are annually gathered under various themes. The contest will take a few gap years starting from 2012, and the festival keeps focusing on presenting both hit films and alternative treats from all around the world.

In the films screened in MusiXine during the past few years, music has been approached from different angles: music as an establisher of identity, as a tool of politics and as a medium of passion and commitment. They have also presented different genres of music from Japanese avant-garde to Romanian electro and from alternative rock to Spanish popular music.
