MusiXine Selection Presents a Wide Range of Music Films

The MusiXine Selection includes ten films, which give the art of music and music making different views from the most pop-musical pieces to the finest classical music. One of the freshest music films in the contest is the new work of the renowned Finnish filmmaker Mika Kaurismäki, whose film Sonic Mirror fills the screen with Brazilian rhythms. Other Finnish contest works are A Lone Star Hotel by Ari Matikainen which follows the life of Jorma Kääriäinen, the front man of a Finnish rock ‘n' roll legend the Agents, and Visa Koiso-Kanttila's film A Winter's Journey which follows a career-devoted young tenor and his bittersweet way to the top, despite his father's resistance.

Nömadak Tx, directed by Raúl De La Fuente, unveils Basque rhythms in different corners of the world. Rolling Like a Stone directed by Swedish Magnus Gertten and Stefan Berg follows the consequences of one magic evening spent with the Rolling Stones. American disco action is served in the documentary Godfather of Disco by Gene Graham, and jazz legend Albert Ayler's life is examined in Swedish Kasper Collin's film My Name Is Albert Ayler.

German filmmaker's works can be seen in The Chosen Ones by Wendla Nöllen which takes a peek at the world of Jew musicians living in New York. Uli Schueppel's documentary BerlinSong introduces music inspired by Berlin. The Sounds of Silents by Ilona Ziok, on the other hand, tells the life story of the last silent film accompanist alive.
